Ontology

The ontology of tourism experiences is a comprehensive framework that organizes various tourism activities into distinct categories for easy navigation and understanding. A research paper detailing the ontology we constructed is currently in preparation. Once completed, it will be uploaded to this website for access.

Discovering Thematic Activities

Through thorough research conducted for this project, rare and distinctive activities that could take place in Greece have been discovered…

The following descriptions outline key accomplishments from each month since the launch of the project, and they present significant tasks or summaries of the tasks. The deliverables encompass all details.

Month 1
Extensive research, expert consultations and discussions with project stakeholders were carried out to draft the statutes. The section on regulations and the structural basis has been thoroughly refined, drawing on best industry practices and compliance standards.

Month 2
Significant steps were taken to develop a meticulously edited manual that serves as a cornerstone for understanding the complex dynamics of business clusters, especially e-clusters, and the specific phases of evolution that characterize the ThemAtticAthenS e-Cluster.

Month 3
In addition to the project deliverables, the decision was made to design a special website for the Cluster: the ThemAtticAthenS e-Cluster .

Month 4
A detailed report was prepared, describing the intricate elements and functions incorporated into the ThemAtticAthenS e-Cluster.

Month 5
Research was conducted for the selection of a suitable website name and the creation of an identity consistent with the unique services and thematic tourism products of the Region of Attica. Simultaneously, a strategy for the effective positioning of the brand was developed to complete the strategic approach for promoting thematic tourism products and services.

Month 6
Efforts were made to finalize the technical report, outlining the characteristics of the stakeholders. Additionally, forms were developed with the aim of laying the groundwork for the design and development stages of the ThemAtticAthenS platform.

Month 7
An important paper has been written detailing the ThemAtticAthenS platform’s purpose and technical specifications, including scenarios for booking, profile creation, and data editing.

Month 8
A detailed written collection of data and information concerning potential providers for the ThemAtticAthenS e-Cluster has been assembled, with the understanding that ongoing updates will be required as additional providers will become involved.

Month 9
Various technical matters were addressed, and tests were conducted to assess the functionality of the platforms that will be used for contacting providers.

Month 10
All the necessary tests on the platform were completed, and a comprehensive report detailing the results was compiled. As the project progresses, the IT team remains vigilant to ensure the platform’s continued stability and performance.

Month 11
Data sources were identified where the information for all providers is stored, such as existing databases, spreadsheets, and APIs, and an appropriate file format was selected for data collection.

Month 12
Tourist providers were categorized based on their specific fields, and tailored emails were sent to each group according to their area of expertise.

Month 13
Phone calls were made to various categories of providers, followed by individual meetings with those who were available and interested in further engagement at that time of the year.

Month 14
During the peak season, emphasis was placed on assisting providers who were already registered on the platform in integrating their activities.

Month 15
New emails were sent to providers who had been previously contacted, as well as to newly identified providers. Additionally, callbacks were made to providers who were unavailable during the peak season, and newly identified providers were also contacted.

Month 16
The implementation of the Information System, i.e. the ThemAtticAthens platform (https://platform.thematticathens.gr/) was completed. It should be noted that the ThemAtticAthens platform has special features that differentiate it from the relevant competing platforms (e.g. use of AI, new forms of thematic tourism, etc.). Organised operational tests of the platform were carried out at A & B Test level.

Month 17
The implementation of the Promotion Plan of ThemAtticAthens (https://platform.thematticathens.gr/) has started. The central narrative of the advertising campaign was that, for foreign visitors and residents alike, Athens-Attica offers much more than they may expect, believe or imagine. Both modern digital marketing techniques and classical techniques such as leaflet distribution in hotels, universities and schools will be used for the implementation.

Month 18
The implementation of the Database of Providers of thematic tourism and related services (hotel, catering and transport) was completed. ThemAtticAthens platform (https://platform.thematticathens.gr/) is in the First Stage of the “Entry” of the Product Life Cycle, with low or negative data, at this stage and with low visibility. Therefore, out of the total potential customers, innovators should be targeted, which according to empirical data represent 2.5% of all providers. Technical Reports evaluating the promotion plan in particular and the project in general were also prepared.
